Jackie O and Camel-toe

Yes, yes...if only I started this blog several weeks ago when the season started...and trust me...this season had a LOT to talk about.

A qu
ick overview: there's been drama galore, and the judges are CRAZY - who they've been choosing and winner and loser I don't agree with. I thought Andy should have won the 1st challenge, Valerie the 2nd, Michael D. the 4th, and Andy the 7th. *sighh*

There are so far two crazy/evil/manipulative people - Gretchen and Ivy. Gretchen tries to be Tim Gunn when he's away (and actually managed to get someone out *poor Sarah*), while Ivy just has insanity emanating from her eyes *shudder*.

Casanova and his fears of dressing up his grandmother in the judges' eyes seem to have come exhaaactly true, but I loved his design! In the past, yes, he has made some old designs, but the one he got kicked off on was gorgeous. Perhaps he could have chosen different colors to make it more youthful, but witchy Ivy's still on (probably for the drama she can bring).

Project Runway S08E08 A Rough Day on the Runway

The challenge this week is their take on classic american sportswear. Hmm, they said to use as inspiration Jackie Kennedy...this reminds me of Robert from Season 2, who was called 'boring'. The judges always saw him designing for Jackie O, LOL.

Uh oh Valerie's asking for advice? Oh no no no...you should never ever ask for advice from someone NOT your mentor when you're on one of these competition reality shows...someone could try to mess with you. I'm worried about Mondo, I absolutely LOVE his fabric, the purple plaidy looking thing, but it's not very Jackie O.

A twist. There's ALWAYS a twist >.< Mondo in the Mood store seemed a little Golilocks XD Chris grabbed leather with fur, when he's NEVER worked with it? Not such a good idea.

Christopher's dress is gorgeous, I love the low slung shoulder...but that shrug is so eww. April did a pretty good job, I just wish it wasn't all in black because the fabric is reminding me of funeral. Ivy's is nice, but I don't like the flimsy outerwear jacket thing. Michael C. made a pretty dress (I like the draping in the back). Gretchen made a nice blouse and skirt, but the outerwear is so long that it looks not proportional.

Michael D. made everything nice except the skirt. Valerie made a pretty look, the colors are sooo gorgeous. Andy made okay upperwear but the pant/short things are horrible!! Mondo made something so nice, why did he choose black and white stripes for the top? It didn't fit with the other two items.

The judges hated Valerie's look and the colors 'dragged it down.' >.< The thing I liked most about her look is the thing they hated most. Chris got awesome comments but not for the shrug, which I agree with. They thought Michael D's was too schizophrenic, which I can see. They liked Mondo's...YAY! But they loved the t-shirt >.> ummm...I didn't like that part O.o The judges totally called it with Ivy and Andy; it was EXACTLY what I was thinking.

YAYYYY MONDO WONNN!!! Finally. I've been rooting for Mondo all along. Michael D went home >.< Unfortunately, I liked all the bottom 3 designers, so I'd be sad with any of them leaving.

Switching it Up

I'm backk :P I actually saw 2 movies yesterday, Secretariat and The Switch. But I decided not to write about both in one post ^.^

Anyway, The Switch is about a 40-year old woman named Kassie (Jennifer Aniston) who decides to have a baby by sperm donor. Her best friend, Wally (Jason Bateman) accidentally 'hijacks' the pregnancy while drunk, but doesn't remember. Cue baby - well, really a kid by now.

Funniest part of the movie: both Wally and the kid have foodgasms...and say 'Om Nom Nom' SERIOUSLY. And whoever did hair and makeup for this movie, I love. Their hair kinda stuck out everywhere...soo cuuute.

The kid actor was cute sometimes, but really overdid his part. Yes, he's supposed to be a genius, and picked on, and neurotic-ish...but stop sighing with every little thing you say!! Ergg...by the end of the movie I really didn't want the kid to say anything - at all.

But...he also had the best line of the movie: In response to flipping the channels insanely fast (which almost every kid does, and probably drives their parents nuts)...'I'm watching them all at once.'

Bateman makes a good Wally. He can pull off the neuroses, while still making them sort of cute and funny, in a I want to pat your head and make it all better kind of way, rather than OMG RUN RUNNNNN!! And his pout? Adorable. But his chemistry with Aniston - zilch. Don't get me wrong, she makes a good typical rom-com female lead...just not for this movie.

                              pic from Ramascreen.com

Love, love, LOVE Jeff Goldblum as Leonard in this movie. A perfect foil to Wally's frenzied pacing, and dramatic waving, he brought a bit of droll, dry humor, which goes a long way in a semi-serious scene.

The director/cinematographer/editor - fine...the filmmakers were smart, and the end results were beautiful. For example, in the actual switching scene, they cleverly used the frosted glass (of the shower) to hide and fade away from 'the deed.' Also, when Wally visits Leonard (his co-worker friend...and perhaps other best friend?) I love the shot of being able to see him coming down the stairs...from outside. Of course, this may be compounded with having fond memories of doing the same thing with my friend (waving to them from outside I mean >.>)

The only footage that really bothered me was the rain scene (again, LOL) where Wally is walking through the rain and getting soaked. The skies were so nicely blue, the rain so high-def, Bateman's skin sooo detailed. It just didn't fit the mood.

Overall, I quite liked it, but I think that's more because I was in the mood for a laid-back rom-com where I wasn't required to think. Plus I actually cried a little (but I do at a lot of movies), which means it was acted well enough for me to feel some sort of connection. Worth going to the movie theater and paying for...probably not. So I'd give it a B-/C+

Secretariat: a movie on a secretary?? ^.~

A friend and I went to see a free screening of Secretariat yesterday. Free! Surprisingly, not that many people were there - well okay, it's not that surprising because it wasn't that well promoted...not like the Step Up 3d screening I went to. Also, we managed to bump into a couple friends, which was cool. I didn't end up inviting them like I did everyone else (who bailed) because I thought it was too far of a drive for them on a weekday...I guess not? Meh. I'll invite them next time XD.

Honestly, coming to the screening I had no idea what it was about. Okay, that's a lie, I knew it was about a horse (I saw the poster after all), but other than that - not a clue. My thought process was: free movie, going to go, take time to look it up? Nah, I'll pass.

Secretariat is the life story of a racing horse and its owner...and it's a Disney movie. That basically sums it up in one sentence XD.

I liked that I got the 60's vibe almost from the start from the coloring, clothing, cars...they did that old school filmy sorta look. Apparently I'm really out of it (or wasn't paying too much attention at the beginning) because they started off the film with the time and place, so when I turned to my friend and whispered 'Do you think this is set in the 60's?' her reply was 'Yeah, it said on the bottom like 2 minutes ago' >.> Whoops.

The cinematography was really well done, for the most part. The shots of the horse's hoof hitting the track and the super high definition of the dirt clumps flying were magnificent. Then there were the not so good shots, like that flashback scenes, and one HUGE glaring error; the funeral rain scene DIDN'T HAVE ANY RAIN! I'm sorry, they're all holding umbrellas and looking 'concerned' that people will get wet, the sound effects have LOTS of raindrops hitting (not even just sprinkling) and they couldn't be bothered to get the ground or even the tops of the umbrellas wet and dripping a bit? epic FAIL.

Side Note: Why does every funeral scene have to be set on a rainy day? Yes yes, it's setting the mood, depressing and in place of people crying, the sky is crying. But really...they should have just made it foggy and sprinkly-like *sigh*

Anyway, Diane Lane was overall pretty decent as the lead actress. There were a couple times when her facial expression seemed to take on a life on its own...I mean, it's good to show range, but there's something called overdoing it.

During the entire movie, I was wondering whether the jockey was a real jockey, or just an actor. I said real (he's super short, and he didn't have all that many talking/acting scenes), my friends thought actor and stunt double. I win...I can't believe I remembered to look it up too ^.^

It's about a B for the movie and how I came out feeling, but a D for cliched and oh-so-predictable, but that's Disney. Overall, I liked it...it was a feel-good happy movie, and even while being predictable, the race scenes were still very tense and exciting. Recommended for people who like movies of the underdog, true stories, and/or just want to be happy afterwords.

Blogging...what?

I've thought about blogging for awhile now...or rather journaling, but there wasn't much going on. There still really isn't that much different in my daily routine, but I'm going to write about all the weird, random things I see, hear, watch, or learn about. It'll be all pretty-fied after I've had some time to spend on it, for now...it is what it is. The procrastination is over.
